The Science of Motion

Kinematics is the science of motion. The investigational Kineflex lumbar disc is designed to potentially mimic the motion of a normal spinal disc. It uses a mobile bearing design, allowing translational movement within limits defined by a specially-designed retention ring. Kineflex features a metal on metal design of cobalt chrome to potentially minimize wear and improve longevity. The endplates come in three sizes to maximize coverage of the vertebral bodies, and incorporate endplate serrations and a locating fin for initial stability.

Kineflex has been used in clinical trials internationally since October 2002. SpinalMotion has started U.S. clinical trials of the Kineflex lumbar artificial disc for the treatment of degenerative disc disease.

Please check back for additional information on the trial and participating centers.
