Chrome has been available for about 12 hours. What's your point of view and experience with Google's new browser?

A bit of a simplistic poll, I know - But covers the bases as far as hot-to-cold opinions. Choose the one that's closest to yours, and feel free to comment as always.

The comic book "sold" me. I loved the tech behind the scenes (don't have a clue what they were talking about), but it sounded good to me!

Can't wait till there are plugins. Chrome has slowed my migration to Ubuntu, as it has solved much of my aged system's limitations.

I used it for about 30 mins today and here's my take so far:

- Ability to "tear out" a tab into a new window, then subsequently be able to drag it back in.
- Performance of tearing out a tab is insanely quick.
- Easy way to change default search provider, didn't expect this.
- Performance -- many pages load blazingly fast. Woah!
- Consolidation of address bar and search bar. No idea why FF, IE and Safari still split them up. Safari is the worst offender on Mac, since it won't even search from the address bar.
- I'm already missing my Greasemonkey plugins for Flickr.
- Love the web developer feature of "view-source://" moniker to view source within the browser. No more separate windows or notepad instances! e.g. view-source:http://www.trevinchow.com/blog

-Their installer failed on me quite a few times with really cryptic error messages. After 3rd attempt everything installed.
- Their crazy EULA terms that should strike fear into the hearts of anyone using it.
- Their own "task manager" -- why deviate from Windows Task manager?
- Deviation from standard Windows convention of double-clicking top left of title bar to close app.
- Site incompatibilities -- various sites, including facebook render wonky in many cases. Wish there was some compatibility mode like IE8 has. Will stop people from using the browser full time.

I'm sure I'll have more feedback as I use it more so I'll give it a week so I can give it its fair shake against FF3 and IE8 Beta 2.

I am pretty happy with it. Only thing it doesn't have that I miss is a drop down from the address bar so I can see the most recent sites I've visited. I like to surf without a keyboard but with Chrome that doesn't seem possible...gotta type at least something to go to a new site.

Otherwise, it is great! Loved the cartoon, too. I wen through all 40 pages of it earlier and am really impressed with what they have done.

I love it!! I think even FireFox has something to learn from Chrome!

Favorite two features: about:blank page is now useful, integration of search and address bar!

Seems very fast, but no plugins to slow it down yet. Very nice for sites heavy on javascript, which is a stated purpose. It installs googleupdate.exe in autorun without telling you, which is not really evil, but not nice either. Once they get plugins and Mac/Linux support it should be a strong competitor.

@Trevin - "Their own "task manager" -- why deviate from Windows Task manager?"

because this way you have the ability to kill specific pages or plugins. each tab being in it's own thread makes sense to me, time will tell if it's a better way to run the browser.

@jmartens - "gotta type at least something to go to a new site."

I bet they add some functionality to later versions, but I love it this way, more like a command line.

Another thought about Trevin's question:

>> "Their own "task manager" -- why deviate from Windows Task manager?"

It runs only on Windows today. When it's on a Mac, Linux, or even a netbook type device or phone possibly, having a standard web task manager becomes important.

Very Hot - The speed out the thing knocked me out! Can't wait to try it some more....

Very fast.
Very nice UI. Stolen the best bits from all the browsers.
Tab tearing.
Huge screen space given over to the webpage.

Lack of smooth scrolling
Lack of middle click scrolling
Lack of gestures (specifically rocker gestures). I think the addition of gestures might be enough to pull over a few more Opera users.
New tab button to the right. Makes it a moving target.
Lack of extensions. Though if gestures are added I probably won't need them ;) (I know, selfish :P)
Seeming lack of keyboard acceleration for the Speed Dial feature.
Inability to use scrollwheel to scroll through tabs.

There are more "Nots" because they're all the things breaking the euphoria bubble. The rest just works wonderfully enough for me not to have to pay particular attention to them.

The speed is awesome, but without all my Firefox extensions it feels crippled. Once extensions are available it will be awesome.
