The Channel 9 Guy took a little change-of-pace vacation recently, and flew to Hawaii to join up with a US Navy aircraft carrier for a week-long Pacific cruise...

Arriving at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii

Finding the ship at Pearl Harbor

Making friends with the Navy crew

Out to sea and hanging out above the flight deck

Ready to fly: On the steps of an F-14 Tomcat on the flight deck

The ship - USS John C. Stennis

9-Guy actually accompanied me on my vacation last week, and we had the privilege of joining the crew of the USS John C. Stennis for a week-long "tiger" cruise, which took us from Pearl Harbor, Hawaii to San Diego, California. The air wing was on board, the ship was underway with the battle group, and it was a terrific week.

I'll be posting more pictures soon, but 9-Guy told me to hurry up and get his posted, so there they are.

Dear Greg,

Holy COW!? Those ships are huge!

How were your accomodations?
What's it like on one of those things? Is it like being in a small town sans trees? How was the food? Did you look at the medical facilities? (I sometimes think of joining up and using my nursing skills for good instead of...naught)

The 9 guy looks like he was having fun.

Wow.
Waiting for your next batch of pictures.

All of these questions will be answered, grasshoppa... Patience. :)

Bliz: The best are yet to come (but they don't have the 9 Guy in them, heh).

Amanda - it's bigger than huge. More than 5,000 people live and work there. It's an international airport sitting on top of a city. It's the most dangerous place in the world, yet one of the safest places you can be. It's also an incredible and amazing experience to spend time with the people who make it work, especially when you know some of them.

More to come soon, I promise. Lots of neato airplane pictures and other stuff, up close and personal.

Wonderful stuff, Greg. Any chance you would be bringing the laptop full of pictures to the Nerd Dinner next week? Sure would be a treat! :-)
