Okay, so... When Microsoft says the XBOX 360 is a whole new level of gaming machine, they're serious.

I just played a couple shooters on a XBOX 360 game console and that's it, I'm sold. The graphics are GREAT. The visuals make the gameplay amazing, and it's clear the processing and video power is extreme. Add to that the Media Center connections and, well... Wow.

If you want to get your hands on one, go to the Best Buy in Beaverton, Oregon on Cedar Hills Blvd. Apparently, at least according to the sales guy there, that store is the second one to get a working display setup (the first one was a WalMart in California, he said). Some Microsoftie walked in with a bunch of boxes, set up the display, and just left. "No one knew what to do!" said the Best Buy kid. Heh. Cool.

The crowd was excited. A sign is taped to the end cap where the 360 resides that says "5 minutes, please." The crew of giddy people (mostly adults by the way) quietly contained themselves and politely took turns splattering people with their virtual firearms. It pretty much rocked. Ooohs and Aahhhhs abound.

Check it out if you can. I'll try to post some pics in the next day or two if I can get back there. This was the first day in months I didn't have my camera with me, go figure.

Yeah, I played CoD at the Wal-mart here, and holy crap, it was sweet. The only issue I had was that the station was set up for short people!

If you're near Microsoft's campus you can visit the Microsoft museum, which is open to the public. There are four or five Xbox360s running that you can touch and use.

I imagine they're getting set up all over the country/world by now. CoD was very cool, for sure. I love the way getting shot or hit results in blurred and greying out vision. The whole physics of the gameplay (and what the console allows the game developers create) is pretty awesome. And that's just in a pre-release demo. Imagine what they'll have in six months or a year, once all the developers really get their fingers in the guts of the machine's capabilities - similar to how the best PS2 game and XBOX games were the ones that came out later on. And the HD support is simply great.

For anyone else in Portland, OR. The Best Buy by the Portland Airport also has a working 360.

Actually, they've been set up at every Wal-Mart for over a week and a half now.

Best Buy just got them this weekend. I watched the crowd playing it at the Best Buy in Tukwila, WA on Saturday.

It is pretty impressive and the controller is perfection. Unfortunately they don't have the best-looking games available as demos yet to really wow people. COD2 looks pretty close to how it does on a higher-end PC.

But it's just too bad they don't have PGR3 on display, as that would have people's jaws dropping.

Matt - you're right, they should set it up for people who are not yet 5'11" tall. But 500 lawns? Yowza!

You wanna see some amazing visuals you gotta see Oblivion for the 360. Watch all 6 chapters here

They are also on the Official Xbox Magazine disc last month. Unbelievable!

The bad news is that they have soooo many preorders for the 360 that MS has told all retailers that they can't take anymore preorders. Since I didn't preorder yet, tried to yesterday, I'll just have to camp out all night on release day.
