Brief Description

Office 2003 Service Pack 1 provides the latest updates to Microsoft Office 2003.

Overview

Office 2003 Service Pack 1 contains significant security enhancements, in addition to stability and performance improvements. Service Pack 1 (SP1) also includes many performance and feature enhancements to Microsoft Office InfoPath 2003.

Some of the fixes included with SP1 have been previously released as separate updates. This service pack combines them into one update.

Included in this Service Pack

This service pack includes all updates previously released for Office 2003:

SP1 will install successfully even if a publicly available update has already been installed on your computer.

SP1 also includes stability improvements developed as a result of user input from the Microsoft Online Crash Analysis in Office 2003 and from Microsoft Product Support feedback.

InfoPath 2003 SP1 Preview and Office 2003 SP1

If you previously installed the InfoPath 2003 SP1 Preview, you should uninstall the InfoPath 2003 SP1 Preview prior to installing Office 2003 SP1. You will need your original InfoPath 2003 product CD to upgrade to the final version of InfoPath 2003 SP1. OneNote 2003 SP1 and Office 2003 SP1

If you use OneNote 2003, we recommend you install OneNote 2003 SP1, which is available as a separate download. For more information, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article (842774): Description of OneNote 2003 Service Pack 1

Outlook 2003 Junk E-mail Filter and Office 2003 SP1

If you use Outlook 2003, we recommend you download the latest version of the Outlook 2003 Junk E-mail Filter Update. To determine whether you need this update, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article (872976): How to obtain the latest Outlook 2003 Junk E-mail Filter.

Office Internet Free/Busy Service and Office 2003 SP1

After installing Office 2003 SP1, all features within Outlook 2003 that access the Microsoft Office Internet Free/Busy Service are no longer available. For more information, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article (842166): Office Internet free/busy features are removed when you install Outlook 2003 Service Pack 1.

To install when using an Office 2003 Multilingual User Interface Pack

For complete Office 2003 SP1 functionality if you are using an Office 2003 Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI), you will need to install both of the following:

Installation instructions
To install this update, do one of the following:

Use Office Update on the Office Online Web site (recommended). Office Update automatically detects Office and prompts you to install updates and service packs that bring Office programs up-to-date.

Install only Office 2003 SP1. To do this, follow these steps:

Download one of the two .exe files by using the links at the bottom of the page, and then save the file to your hard disk drive.
- Office2003SP1-kb842532-client-enu.exe: You should download this file if you have access to your original product CD-ROM. You might need to provide the installation source during patch installation if you have previously updated your product.
- Office2003SP1-kb842532-fullfile-enu.exe: Download this file if you do not have access to your original product CD-ROM or if you have experienced problems installing the Office2003SP1-kb842532-client-enu.exe file.
It is recommended that you quit any programs you are running.

In Windows Explorer, double-click the .exe file that you saved to your hard disk drive, and follow the instructions on the screen.

Instructions for use:

After you install this update, use Office as you typically would.

To remove this download:

There is no uninstall feature for this download. For more information, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article (873125): You cannot remove Service Pack 1 for Office 2003 products.

The downloads for this update are below. When you double-click the executable package, installation begins. To extract the patch files (MSP files), you must use a command line.
