I hope mine is not an exception to the rule, because this is pretty cool: I've been running the release version of Windows Vista on one of my laptop computers since yesterday (one that I use all the time and which does a whole boatload of work), and quite literally everything seems to run considerably smoother and faster than it ever did on XP. Now, I don't have Aero Glass/WDM on (graphics card doesn't support it), but Office, web browsers and all apps are notably better. Especially Outlook. Wow.

The only issue I have found so far is that the Explorer shell seems to hang every now and then. I probably just have a rogue random utility that's not playing well. I'll have to look into that. At least when I kill the Explorer process, it's sending trouble data off to Microsoft for analysis. That's a good thing. It recovers gracefully, though when the process restarts. While I have not seen this kind of issue since the Windows 95/98 days, the fact that the process comes back gracefully and everything still works is a plus.

I ran all the betas, and I for one am glad they delayed and fixed up some stuff. So far it looks pretty darn good. Some of the dialogs (like the new Start Menu style and file system dialogs) are a little goofy for a power user, but I intend to stick with them and see if I can make them work well. I am, after all, getting older and more set in my ways, so I find I need to allow more time for me to adjust than I used to, heh.

I spent all last night looking for stability reviews of Vista, I received my Action back the other day and am going to place on one of my laptops to test out- I could not find one that discussed the speed or stability differences; many that discussed the new interface, and the security, etc.; none of which really matter to me, I am hoping the stability jump is significant...meaning every 1 - 3 days I don't have to restart my computer, etc.

I also ran beta for MS Office, focusing on Excel, but was taking back with the ribbon, only after downloading a utility to help with making toolbars, essential when I work, did I really start to enjoy the improvements--

Has the stability of Vista improved? DRC

i have recently installed vista, and i am extremely fed-up, unless you have 2GB or more RAM then do not install it, i can only open 2 programs at anyone time before it begins to crash, any movies i play on youtube/dailymotion etc. always freeze and carry on playing after a few seconds, even they have fully loaded, and if i type fast on internet explorer it will miss out letters because of the speed (oh yeh i have 1GB of RAM, and i cannot put 2GB on because my warranty AND my guarentee will be void)
ad if i tpe faston ternet explorer it wl mis ut letes becaseof he sped, [ < if i type fast]

i can not even put xp back on because i do not have the xp cd, nor the serial number to make it genuine, because acer no longer provides the xp cd, so im stuck with this for 3 years, otherwise i will have no insurance,

You know, while teaching Essential WCF last week I got sick of creating the skeleton for a simple self hosted service. Dom (who was co-teaching with me) suggested I write a snippet for it. This is what I came up with this.

I saw new XCB (X C Binding) that will replace libX11. XCB uses XML descritption of the protocol to generate the bindings. I think it could be used to generate Mono/.NET managed bindings for using them in Managed.Windows.Forms (Mono's System.Windows.Forms). ¿Is it a good idea?

I have Vista & have had it for a while. It's not a bad Operating System as many says it is. It's the fact most of you don't even know how to use it, nor make it faster. It's called Tweaking & I use Ultimate, so it works Great. I only have 2 Gigs of Ram & my processor isn't the greatest, but my Computer still runs Great. I had XP for a while & all it did was mess up my Laptop. Restart it, Blue Screens & so forth. I couldn't stand it any longer, so just stayed with Vista. It can be Slow, but it is a lot better then XP. It doesn't work with all Software & Hardware out there, but Microsoft is working on it, but some of you just have to judge it so fast. Maybe the people who have no patients stay with XP, but the people who know how to work Vista & how to Tweak it to make it faster, then stay with Vista. If anyone needs help with Vista e-mail me at dav4charl@aol.com!
