Something appears to have changed today with Google reader. I was looking at the screen and something felt, well, different. But I couldn't place it. Then I realized - the "Labs" label seems to be gone. Wow, that was quiet. And there I thought it has already moved up and out.

And it looks like the Google Reader blog explains it. Well, kind of explains it. No more "Labs." Nice job.

I use Google reader almost exclusively now. To be honest, it took more than a year to grow on me, and only when I got to a point where I wanted to be able to access it from anywhere did it really get interesting.

What did you use before/instead of Reader? I've been using FeedDemon for years. I just rediscovered Reader and it's A LOT better than in the past. It's still missing a few things FeedDemon does better, but it's close (and the obvious ability to access it anywhere is very nice).

I didn't see the change either. Reader is great though. It's simple to add/remove feeds, add them to folders, move em around. And yes, it's available everywhere I go. I've been thinking about whether to have a Google home page. Without having even looked at what it offers, I envision having a reader pane, my own blog pane, google calendar, gmail, etc. It should just work without much effort.

Before I went to the web-based reader, I used FeedDemon exclusively since before it was known to pretty much anyone. I think the world of Nick Bradbury, the author of FeedDemon, and I still keep it around, but my computing style has changed over the past year or two and installed software has become a bit of a burden in certain cases. But of course I am weird and unusual, FeedDemon is awesome, and I recommend it very highly.

Interesting to read that Google Reader grew on you over a period of 1 year. This was the case for me as well.

Before I had been using Sage feed reader in Firefox.

While this was fast it was messy keeping track on read items from multiple Firefox installations (home, public, work etc).

When Google Reader added an application to Facebook that allowed sharing of items between friends and networks I made the switch.

Really happy I did as Google Reader is great when accessing from mobile devices (PSP, mobile phone).

Hmmm, I sound like a Google Reader commercial :-)

Hey Now Greg,

Google Reader is a nice reader for the reasons mentioned above. I would like to be able to use folders or some way of organizing them, do you know of a way? As always thanks for the info.
