The bandwagon is rolling rolling rolling along: MSN kicked a new toolbar suite out the door that integrates desktop search – cool stuff. Check it out.

I like the display-results-as-you-type thing, similar to X1. Google needs this.

“MSN Toolbar Suite features three different toolbars to help you search the Web and your computer from Microsoft Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer, the Windows taskbar, and Microsoft Outlook.”

Update: Scott has a look under the hood and compares the MSN desktop search to the Google desktop search, as well.

Google just made a huge step in that direction, with their Google Suggest: http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=1

And for everybody else: All the innovative features of the MSN Toolbar are also available if you try Firefox, an alternative browser. I won't say anything about which browser is better, otherwise, my comment won't show up anyway...

Heh, of course, not the desktop search functionality itself ;-) - only the popup blocking and internet search and search term highlighting in web pages and auto-completion of forms.

But if I'd really use IE, I'd sure look into that MSN Toolbar :-)

You can say which browser you think is best, no worries here. Firefox is a great browser. I wrote about Google Suggest here already:
